Siemens Malaysia Powers Up Klang Valley’s First Rail Electrification System

  • A glimpse into the MRT Line 2 of Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya.

The MRT Line 2 on the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya alignment is projected to serve a population of 2 million commuters once in full operation. Siemens’ proven solution and track record worldwide meant that they were able to provide a one-stop solution to the Alternating Current portion of the Power Supply & Distribution System, such as the Gas Insulated Switchgears and Power Transformer.

Although there wasn’t a use case reference for Siemens on past rail electrification projects in Malaysia, nevertheless they were able to successfully secure the order through a strong and competent project management and engineering team, who were the backbone in ensuring a successful execution of the equipment delivery up until 2020.

The success of this project has opened the doors for Siemens’ rail electrification market segment in Malaysia from technical sharing sessions and meetings, to factory audits and site visits. These factors have been crucial in pushing forth the competitive edge for Siemens.
